Since its creation in 1975, the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage has become one of the main centers of education, reflection and debates about contemporary art in the city. Founded by Rubens Gerchman, the school hosts exhibitions, theater performances, film festivals and shows.
The school is associated with the State Secretary of Culture of Rio de Janeiro and is managed by AMEAV - Association of Friends of the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage. Through its enduring image in the world of art, EAV seeks to create internal mechanisms and external lines of work that enable a productive dialogue with the city and with the national and international art circuits. EAV operates as a free art school with libertarian pedagogy for educating artists and professionals in the contemporary art field and also serves as a center of culture. In addition to the Annual Plan project of the School of Visual Arts, Parque Lage hosts the following projects: the EAV Exhibition Program, which envisions the execution of two exhibitions and artistic installations and the EAV Education Program, which works to grant scholarships for artist education and mentoring.
